©Tarzanna Graphics 1997-2007I had a lot of fun creating these backgrounds. I had several
Five Gallon buckets of shells I'd collected after a big storm, so I thought why
not scan them and do something with them. Here's the results. I'm not 100% sure
of the shell names in all cases, but I did look them up and try to be correct
on them. This Cone Shell Background is my personal work. You may use this Cone
Shell Background FREE on your site if you'll simply provide a link giving us

(instructions below and on our main page) I believe the Scientific name of this Cone Shell Specimen is Conus Floridana. It was a pretty violent Tropical Storm that brought it in, so I was pretty surprised to find buckets and buckets of shells that were whole and unbroken. You cannot take live shells in the state of Florida. We found several that had to be sent back to the sea. Be wary of Cone Shells that still have their occupants inside. THEY'RE POISONOUS if they sting you! We rolled them over and checked them out with our shoe or a stick before we picked them up. If there was still an occupant, then we just scooted them back down to the water and sent them on their way. You can get some very detailed information on Cone Shells at Cone Shells and Conotoxins.
