This image of a bull elk climbing a hill was taken by me on the side of a road in Rocky Mountain National Park. He was moving pretty quickly and there were two others with him. The picture was taken in June of 2007. While his antlers aren't fully grwon and won't be until the end of summer, they were still covered in 'velvet.' Sometime in this month, they begin rubbing their antlers on the trunks of the Aspen trees to remove the velvet. "Rut Season" (mating season) arrives the end of September, and the bugling of the bull elk begins. It's quite a site to behold, and the competition among the bull elk is ferocious.

New babies will arrive the end of the following May. Again, another fantastic site to behold. If you should ever have the opportunity to visit the Park, don't miss out on it.
